Crissman: The peripupillary ring of the iris is when different melian pigment is in different amounts of the eye resulting in a dark ring around the iris. It is common in hazel eyes.
2Q: What causes this?
Crissman: It is decoded in your DNA, which your inherited from past generations.
3Q: Do any of your patients have this trait? If so, are they of European descent, like myself?
Crissman: I really don't know if any of my patients have this, but I do know that 99% of the people with this trait are of European or mixed descent.
